Plenty of food choices at Gardens By The Bay

IT WILL be a feast for the eyes - and also the stomach - when Gardens By The Bay opens on June 29.

While the plants will draw interest, food and beverage operators such as Les Amis Group and Bakerzin also hope to leave a big impression with visitors.

All in, there will be 10 eateries, with options from hawker fare such as bak kut teh to desserts like cakes and macarons, and fine-dining by Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton.

Last November, the Gardens awarded contracts to three food and beverage operators - Planar One and Associates, Select Group and JC Tapas Bar. Since then, four more - Shin Group of Restaurants, Artisanal Impressions, Bakerzin and IndoChine Group - have come on board.

The Les Amis Group is opening cafe Canele Patisserie Chocolaterie and pizzeria Casa Verde at the Supertree Casual Dining Grove, which the Select Group operates.

Mr Vincent Tan, managing director of the Select Group, said the two concepts by Les Amis complemented his company's idea of having a cafe and a Western food eatery.

The Supertree dining area will also house Peach Garden Noodle House, fast-food chain Texas Fried Chicken and Hill Street Coffee Shop.

'We are very happy to get a brand name like Les Amis to work with us. They understand the profile of customers that the Gardens will attract,' said Mr Tan, referring to the group's experience with the Casa Verde restaurant at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

Another two dining spaces - an open-air foodcourt reminiscent of the old Satay Club, with up to 30 stalls, and a bistro-bar by Indochine - will open in September and July respectively.

Indochine's bistro-bar will sit on top of the highest Supertree, which at 50m will give diners a 360-degree view of the Gardens.

Indochine's chief executive Michael Ma, a nature lover, said his restaurant will continue to serve the fusion food it is known for. 'It will be East meets West. We will be serving super-healthy, super-nutritious food using ingredients that have high levels of antioxidants,' he added.

Over at Mr Atherton's Pollen restaurant in the Flower Dome conservatory, diners will get to taste signature items such as scallop carpaccio and slow-cooked egg from his restaurant Pollen Street Social in London.

'Some of the dishes will feature herbs and vegetables that are grown in our own herb garden at the restaurant,' said a spokesman for JC Tapas Bar, which is collaborating with Mr Atherton to open Pollen.
