In 2016, Singapore was ranked second in the world for its port infrastructure, according to the World Economic Forum (WEF) Port Infrastructure Rankings, while the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) ranked Singapore as the second most connected country in the world.
In spite of near-term challenges within the industry and uncertainty in the global economy, Singapore has continued to invest in infrastructure, technology and manpower. By taking counter-cyclical measures, it is well placed to capitalise on opportunities when trade picks up and growth returns.
Securing Singapore’s Premier Port Stature
Singapore is continuing to build on its strengths as a premier port hub. To meet the needs of industry’s growing demands, work has begun on a mega terminal at Tuas, even while the Pasir Panjang Container Terminal is being completed. To be developed in four phases over 30 years, the Tuas Terminal will have 66 berths with a total handling capacity of 65 million TEUs.
