SINGAPORE MARITIME SERVICES GUIDE 2017/2018
The next generation Tuas port will be built from the ground up, and will provide Singapore with the opportunity to leverage on digital and automation technologies and new land-use ideas to increase efficiency, productivity, safety and security. The first caisson for Tuas Terminal phase 1 was launched on 29 April 2016.
To intensify land use at the terminal, MPA is working closely with other agencies to explore the possibility of co-locating container
port facilities and maritime-related services on spaces above and underground.
Tuas Terminal is a

next-generation port vision and

Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore during the launch of the first caisson for Tuas Terminal 1
The new port will
employ productivity
and labour-saving
equipment, such as the
automated yard cranes
currently used at the Pasir Panjang
Container Terminal and the automated
guided vehicles, which are now being tested.
As part of its commitment to environmental protection, all handling equipment will be driven by electricity and batteries
instead of diesel fuel.
As ships calling at Singapore are increasing both in size and in numbers, next-generation port
operations systems will be deployed to better manage port waters. With the deployment of the Next Generation Vessel Traffic Management System for instance, port officials will be able to assist ship masters to avoid congestion through early detection of congestion hot spots. They can also advise them on the best route to reach the berths safely and efficiently.
