Schools’ Outreach to Expand the Maritime Talent Pool
Since its formation, SMF has played a key role in promoting the industry amongst Singapore’s young to raise a new generation of talents for Maritime Singapore. Working with industry partners and MPA, it has engaged students in schools and undergraduates at tertiary institutes to showcase the myriad career opportunities available both at sea and ashore, various maritime-related courses at the polytechnics and universities, as well as the scholarships that are available to them.
The Maritime Experiential Programme (MEP) was launched in May 2015 and offers secondary school students a close encounter
with the industry through visits to interesting maritime-related destinations such as the Singapore Maritime Gallery, ports and shipyards which helps broaden their knowledge of the industry and the career opportunities available.
Over 600 secondary students have participated in the programme since its launch.
One of SMF’s latest initiatives is the Maritime Touch Programme where Maritime
