Building Industry Capabilities
SMF regularly organises capacity building activities covering different aspects of the maritime industry. Organised in collaboration with the General Insurance Association of Singapore (GIA) and sponsored by LCH Lockton Pte Ltd, the Maritime Knowledge Shipping Sessions (MKSS) seeks to raise awareness on pertinent issues related to maritime and marine insurance. The insurance programme is now in its 10th year.
Many leading practitioners have been invited to speak on topics such as maritime dispute resolution, piracy, maritime security, risk assessment, oil pollution liabilities, ship classification, claims management and global trends in marine hull and cargo insurance. Since the first session in May 2007, over 30 sessions have been conducted, benefitting thousands of maritime professionals.
SMF also co-organises the Marine Insurance & Maritime Networking Party with GIA. Now in its sixth year, the annual event is attended by marine insurance practitioners and maritime
